Meet our 2017-2018 Staff!

 Chelsea Shelton-Owner/Artistic Director/Teacher/Choreographer

Contemporary, Jazz, Modern and Director of SEED Dance CO

Chelsea Shelton has been dancing for 20 years and has been trained in Ballet,Jazz,Tap,Modern,Lyrical,Pointe,Flamenco and Contemporary styles. After graduating high school she auditioned and was accepted into a dance program called “Remnant” under the direction of Derek and Cami Capps located in Tampa, Florida. In this 10 month training program she had daily training in Jazz and Modern styles had many teaching opportunities, administrative training, and many performance opportunities within the city of Tampa as well as abroad including a dance missions trip to the Philippines. Chelsea was also accepted into Ingredients Dance Training Company in Dallas, Texas under the direction of Michelle Brogan. In this company she trained daily in Ballet,Jazz,Modern,and Contemporary. She had many performance opportunities in the metropolis of Dallas as well as traveling on a nationwide tour with Christian dance convention Dance Revolution. Since, Chelsea has trained and traveled abroad, she has been teaching locally and choreographing; including her time as a teacher and choreographer within the Modern Class at Hagerstown Community College. She also has been the director of Gateway Ministries Church dance ministry called 3rd Day Anointing which she has lead, choreographed and taught for 11 years. Chelsea has started her own Christian dance company called Neshema Dance Company the Fall of 2010 Neshema is a professional dance company that is in it's 7th year of operation. Neshema provides dancers that long to take their dance to a new level a place to grow closer to God through their dance and challenges them to be everything God has called them to be! In addition to being the company director of Neshema Dance Co, Chelsea is also the owner of a Christian dance studio Bloom Dance Studio in Hagerstown,Md. Bloom Dance Studio is one of a kind being one of the only Christian dance studios in the Hagerstown,MD area. Bloom has been established since 2011 and offers Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip-hop, Tap, Modern and Pointe from ages 3-up. Bloom and Neshema are growing and Chelsea purchased a permanent home for both of these organizations in 2013. Chelsea has also hosted and directed many Summer and Winter intensives over the years at Gateway Ministries Church and at Bloom Dance Studio. Re-kre'at Dance Intensive was birthed from the ideas of these Summer dance intensives and the hope for Re-kre'at is that it would grow and travel to offer these Christian dance intensives to the North East! Chelsea is a Christian artist who believes in reaching out to this world through the captivating form of the arts. As she receives creativity and unparalleled inspiration from the Author of dance she continues to strive and move forward to bloom where she has been planted.




Laurel Hellane-Teacher/Choreographer

 Tap and Ballet Technique Teacher

Laurel Hellane has been dancing since the age of 3 and is trained in Tap, Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical, Modern, Contemporary, Musical theater and Jazz . She grew up dancing at Mar-le-nie Dance Studio in Chambersburg, PA and other various dance studios locally. At Mar-le-nie , she had the opportunity to take workshops from many Professional dancers and choreographers from Broadway. After graduating High-school Laurel auditioned and was accepted as a company member in the professional Christian dance company, Neshema Dance Company, under the direction of Chelsea Shelton. In addition to weekly technique classes and rehearsals, through Neshema, Laurel had the amazing experience of attending dance conventions in both North Carolina and New York City. As being a member of Neshema Dance Co, Laurel had many teaching opportunities and performance opportunities around this tri-state area.  Being a part of Neshema helped her grow not only as a dancer, but also as a worshiper, and Jesus follower. Laurel has continued her dance training at Hagerstown Community College through pursuing her major in Dance, dancing in 2 seasons of the HCC dance company and training under her college professor Karen Carpenter, who danced for the Joffrey Ballet, in both Ballet and Pointe.  Along with dancing, Laurel also has a passion for traveling the world, being with ones she loves, painting, singing, and LAUGHING! “One thing that I love about dancing is the reactions that people have when they see a dance. I don’t just want to make people smile or clap, I want to share my passion for Jesus. I want to be able to change people for the better, and show them the light in the world through dance.” Laurel is excited to share her passion with her students at Bloom Dance Studio, and help them grow as Jesus followers, worshipers, and dancers!




Kenny Catchings- 


All Hip-hop Classes

From a young age Kenny Catchings had no formal dance training, he started to dance by becoming a street/hip-hop dancer specializing in freestyle. Wanting to further his knowledge, he applied to Barbara Ingram School for the Arts for dance and was accepted in the 2010-2011 school year. He continued his training at BISFA until he graduated in 2014. While studying at BISFA he was trained in many dance styles including Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary and Hip-hop. In 2012 he won the county wide annual "Just Dance" competition. In 2013 he and many other dancers across the nation danced in the Orange Bowl on New Years Day in Miami. He was also able to take classes from Kris Judd and Travis Wall during his time in Florida. In 2013, he was the recipient of the Bill Dorsey Scholarship reward by being nominated by his dance teachers at BISFA. Since graduating, Kenny has had many teaching,choreography and performance opportunities locally including performing with Antietam Recreation in 2015 for their Century of Song show and he has taught at Kinetics dance studio in Baltimore, Maryland. Kenny was accepted into the University Of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2014 and he is currently enrolled in Howard Community College as a dance major. His favorite dancers are Michael Jackson, James Brown, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire and Dominic Palmer the latter has served as a mentor for him. Kenny has recently restored his relationship with God and is excited to grow closer to Him than ever before. Kenny hopes to be able to connect with his students at Bloom on a spiritual and technical level by creating unique movement and spreading the gospel through dance. His only goal at Bloom is to have a positive impact on his students life and help them grow stronger in confidence, movement and in Christ.

Julia Barra


Beginner Ballet 1, Beginner Tap/Jazz 1, Beginner Ballet 3, Intermediate Ballet, Advanced Ballet 2&3 and Pointe


Julia Barra has been dancing since the age of three. She has been classically trained in Ballet and Pointe at the Chambersburg Ballet Theater (CBT) in Chambersburg,PA. Growing up she danced at CBT and also at Step by Step Dance Studio. While she was at Step By Step, she took classes in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Tap, and Acro. Not only did she dance there, but she also helped teach classes and was a member of the Competitive Dance Team. The Competitive Team traveled to different areas and competed against many different companies. Julia has been teaching dance since she was sixteen years old, and has taught classes at Chambersburg Ballet Theater, Mar-le-nie Dance Studio, and Step By Step. Julia recently graduated from Wilson College in Chambersburg PA, with a Minor in Dance. She danced all four years at Wilson College and was the President of Orchesis, the dance club on campus. Ever since she was a little girl, she has enjoyed dance, especially the teaching aspect. She has spent countless hours in the dance studio choreographing, relieving stress, taking classes, or just having fun with her fellow dancers and instructors. She looks forward to teaching classes at Bloom!



  Lauren Frick


Beginner Ballet 2, Beginner Jazz 2, Beginner Contemporary 2

Lauren Frick has been dancing since the age of three.  She grew up dancing at Miss Dicey’s School of Dance in Mercersburg Pennsylvania. Lauren has been trained in Jazz, Modern, Lyrical, Musical theater, Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Acro, and Hip-hop. While dancing at Miss Dicey’s School of Dance, Lauren was part of the competition dance team that traveled to various places to compete. At these competitions Lauren had a chance to take classes from famous instructors from all over the United States. Lauren was also an assistant instructor for five years at Miss Dicey’s. She has taught students ages two through thirteen.  After high school, Lauren attended Bloomsburg University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education to teach early childhood education pre-kindergarten through fourth grade and special education pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.  While attending Bloomsburg University Lauren took musical theater classes and danced in the university’s dance ensemble.  Also while attending Bloomsburg University Lauren taught at a local studio called Bloomsburg School of Dance.  At this studio, Lauren taught Musical theater, Hip-hop, and Jazz to students ages five through sixteen.  Lauren’s interests outside of dance include reading, spending time with her family, traveling, going on adventures with friends, and making the most of every day.  Lauren credits all of her success to the Lord and her extremely supportive family.  She was raised in a faithful home with a loving environment and hopes to create that same environment for her students at Bloom.  Lauren’s goal at Bloom is to help every student understand that their worth comes from who they are in God and to shine in all of the glory that is being exactly who God made them to be.

Brook Chapline


Mommy and Me Classes and Intro to Dance Classes

Brook Chapline took ballet lessons at Laurel Valley Dance Studio and Chambersburg Ballet Theatre School before teaching Ballet at Bloom Dance Studio for two and a half years. She went on to start her own studio in Chambersburg called Shekinah Ballet School where she created the production, “the Nativity Suite.” She is a senior at Clarks Summit University and hopes to use her degree to create a discipleship ministry for young women. Brook is excited to teach at Bloom because she enjoys working with small children by introducing them to dance as something fun that they can begin to develop a passion for. The Mommy and Me class is something that Moms can really have fun with too. It's a way that they can spend time with their children and have fun doing so!
